The warriors return to their respective homes; Walther marries Hildegund and eventually becomes king of the Aquitainians (1443–1452)

When this was said, the men renew again their pledge;
Together lifting up the king, who suffered gravely,
They put him on a horse, then went their separate ways: 1445
The Franks to Worms, the man from Aquitaine back home.
There, joyously received with lavish honors, he
Declared in public he would marry Hildegund.
Upon his father’s death and loss, beloved by all,
He ruled his people happily for thirty years. 1450
What wars he fought and what great triumphs often gained,
Behold, my blunted stylus now declines to write.
